Alternative Investments

Alternative investments, also called non-traditional investments, are investment strategies that use trading techniques generally unavailable through public markets.  Alternative investments increase diversification, are designed to minimize, or even eliminate, the role of overall market direction in determining return by using hedging or arbitrage strategies. These strategies include hedge funds, private equity, real estate, natural resources and managed futures.

  2. Prospective investors should carefully consider the risk factors associated with an investment in a hedge fund, all of which are more carefully described in fund documents and should consult their own legal and financial advisors.
